GIGABYTE CES 2012: Media Round Up

We’re only into the second day of this year’s CES show in Las Vegas, but already plenty of key PC enthusiast media have paid us a visit and published stories about our forthcoming motherboard series. Here’s a selection of media highlights from today and yesterday;

VR-Zone

Our buddy LG Nilsson writing for VR-Zone relished the opportunity to take a look at some consumer oriented motherboard designs for Intel’s next generation processors, writing a fairly comprehensive overview of each of the boards displayed at the show.

“If you've been waiting for some more consumer friendly motherboards than the dual-socket workstation board we've seen so far from CES, then we have good news, we've got a few shots of Gigabyte's upcoming Intel 7-series motherboards….As with Gigabyte's X79-series motherboards, the upcoming 7-series boards for the LGA-1155 socket will be equipped with digital PWMs, Gigabyte's 3D Power and of course the 3D UEFI. However, there's a lot more to these new boards and there are a few really interesting additions that we can expect at the launch.” - VR-Zone Source

PC Perspective

Scott Michaud from PC Perspective managed to get a look at our new offerings despite suffering from the obligatory sore feet that comes with a day at CES:

“The first day of CES is nearly to a close and while I escape the blisters on my feet due to my location a few time zones and one border away from the organized chaos, the callusing of my fingertips has just begun. Allow us to each stretch our hands out, loosen our wrists, and prepare to indulge on distilled product announcements and testimony of how awesome various TVs look. Since we are a computer hardware website, how about indulging in a jackpot of information about Gigabyte’s next generation of Z77 Ivy Bridge motherboards?

The Z77 chipset will be Intel’s higher-end platform for the upcoming Ivy Bridge CPUs as well as support for the previous generation of Sandy Bridge processors. While there are some 60-series chipsets that support Ivy Bridge with a BIOS update I am sure Gigabyte, for one, hopes you upgrade to a motherboard more suited for the CPU.

Dan Stolz caught the full press conference at the Venetian as well as the whole new family of boards, and was appreciative of the opportunity to get hands some thoroughly new and exciting forthcoming technology:

Tweaktown boss man Cameron Wilmot was also in attendance at the media event, taking this memorable photo of our buddy Colin Brix armed to the teeth with next gen boards of course!

“CES 2012 - GIGABYTE just got done holding their "Meet the Executives" event at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas and one of the big points for staying ahead of their competition (ASUS) was to be first out with new technology.

One big new piece of technology coming out sometime later this year is Intel's Ivy Bridge platform. We are already bound by an NDA, so there is little we can say. A quick search on Google though shows things like native USB 3.0 and PCI Express 3.0 support. It will be a mid-range platform, you can think of it as an updated Z68 Express for upcoming Intel processors.” - TweakTown Article

Eteknix

Finally, Andy Ruffel from Eteknix managed to catch the whole event on camera. Check out the video below for a ringside seat of the event where attending media got their very first sniff of our future generation motherboards:

“As we attended the Gigabyte Meet the Executives meeting at CES, Las Vegas, we were comfortably sitting down when a loud knocking came from the next room and the doors opened to be greeted by Marketing Manager of Gigabyte; Colin Brix.

Colin blasted in causing quite a stir as he announced the boards in his hands were that of Intel Z77 origin and were “stolen” from his colleague in the R&D department of Gigabyte.”  - Eteknix Source

Hicookie ups his world records with GIGABYTE X79-UD3 during media live show in Beijing

Hicookie attended a media conference in Beijing overnight and broke out the LN2 and redid some of his records. He used GIGABYTE X79-UD3 & 3930K with the latest F7 bios.

RunCore Pro V 128GB mSATA SSD reviewed, looks perfect for onboard mounting

Chris Ramseyer at Tweaktown has published a review RunCore’s new Pro V 128GB mSATA SSD module, and it would appear that he’s impressed giving it a hearty ‘Best Features’ TweakTown Award. Although the review, and indeed the product itself is looked at in the context of notebook and netbooks, I can’t help but wonder just good it would look seated directly onto a GIGABYTE motherboard.

Here at GIGABYTE we were the first motherboard vendor to really innovate using the still relatively new mSATA technology standard, and while we were certainly motivated by Intel’s Smart Response Technology which uses low capacity, affordable mSATA SSDs to cache your most frequently used applications (resulting in a nice boost in response times), we were no less convinced that it would in the end prove to be a great way of adding an SSD directly to your board to use as your primary OS drive.

There aren’t too many mSATA drives on the market, so it’s really encouraging to see RunCore offering this high-performance 128GB model – plenty of space for a Windows 7 install! And by the way, our love of mSATA hasn’t diminished in any way since the Intel Z68 launch….hint, hint.

PHIL from Greece breaks single card Unigine world record with the new HD 7970 GPU

I just came across a nice looking ghetto mod on HWBOT by a Greek overclocker PHIL who also broke the single card world record in Unigine. He used a GIGABYTE P67A-UD5, Kingston HyperX and an awesome looking cascade ghetto mount on the GPU, DID I SAY IT LOOKS AWESOME!

Awesome PHIL, keep it up mate!

Massman from hwbot takes the X79-UD7 to 5.4GHz in 4-way SLI

PJ from hwbot (aka Massman) just uploaded a short video showing 3D mark 11 on a 4-way SLI setup based on the GIGABYTE X79-UD7 motherboard running at 5.4GHz. He’s running the latest F8d beta BIOS that is not available from our website yet – F7 is available though: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4047#bios.

I just noticed this WPRIME 32M score from the same benching session with the CPU at almost 5.5GHz while running multithreaded benchmarks at extremely high volts – just in case there were any doubts out there as to the quality or design of the PWM…

Video: High Tech Legion Award Gold for Z68XP-UD5

High Tech legion have just published their review of our Z68XP-UD5 motherboard, and it would seem that they’re impressed, awarding their Gold Award. Interestingly, reviewer Eric Stemplewski has also made an in-depth video to accompany the online article, so if you want to get up close and personal with the award-winning board, you’ll not be disappointed.
