It was another busy week for us at GIGABYTE. While we’re in the final stages of preparations for GO OC 2010 Global Finals coming up this weekend, my associates Tim and Colin were at the other part of the world participating the Intel Developer Forum (IDF 2010) at San Fransico showcasing our upcoming products at the USB Techzone.

Go OC 2010 worldwide final is just over a week away! GIGABYTE team and judges have done some bios testing and troubleshooting to provide a solid bios for the finals. We are going to release this bios in public today for competitors and media to review and use before the finals if they wish to. It will be accompanied by a guide and some handy voltage read points for GA-X58A-UD7 (rev2.0) motherboards which form part of the competition OC gear platform.

Measurement points if necessary:
DDR voltage and CPU vcore voltage closely correspond to values set in bios. QPI/VTT undervolts between 0.08v (1.4v in bios was 1.32v on DMM) at lower volts and up to 0.1v at higher volts(1.69v in bios was 1.59v on DMM).
One of the key performance aspects the bios was tested for is 32M SuperPi as it is one of the benchmarks which will have a strong impact on the competition. The bios is very efficient as per this 4Ghz test. NB clocking on this particular CPU was also solid clocking to 5.2Ghz 32M stable NB frequency in a separate test which may benefit some of the benchmarks chosen for the final.

Memory overclocking is getting more exciting by the day on XtremeSystems.org. An overclocker from Austria (no kangaroos there) called _mat_ posted an impressive overclock with the GIGABYTE P55A-UD7 and Corsair GTX6 memory to a new CAS7 latency world record of 3059.4Mhz. HWBOT.ORG’s most popular contest ever has drawn to a close ladies and gentlemen. GIGABYTE team decided to make an interesting contest for the month of August with a two stage competition.
SuperPi 32M was the benchmark of the month with a 4GHz category and an unlimited clock category. Lynnfield proved to be the choice of hardware for the 4Ghz category as expected. This was the hardware and efficiency tuners round with extremely close runs from top 5 contestants eventually going to Team Australia’s youngpro with a blindingly fast 8m50.062s. Youngpro is a funny character for those who don’t know the guy. He pulled out a PCI Express expander daughterboard, installed dual 5870s and asked if we will have a 3D leg of the competition hahaha.
Second stage was the unlocked stage of the competition so it was always going to be the inexpensive Clar(bars)dales that would dominate this leg of the competition because of their extremely low VRM load and ability to run beyond 6GHz. NichShih took out this stage with a monster run of 6.4GHz 32M SuperPi on his Core i5 670 CPU WOW. Who would think that this little creature of a board could produce such a monster clock!
Nick Shih just edged out Perica Barii from Serbia to take out the top spot with 13 points and is crowned the champion.
This was not your typical contest you will see on the net. It was relaxed, guys uploaded scores throughout the month and didn’t go hiding in a cave and come out 2 seconds before the end of the contest to post their runs. It was a fun experience and the overclocking spirit was high. I want to thank everyone for participating and making it such a great contest. High fives all round fellas and Clare (yes we had a girl OCer join in as well eeeeek).

We just announce the GO OC 2010 'Guess the Winner' contest on the official GO OC website. The competition will run from August 20th until September 24th, the day before the GO OC worldwide final in Taipei and is open to anyone from any country to participate.
The official GO OC website offers contestant profiles and pictures from the various regional finals to help you decide who you think will be crowned GIGABYTE GO OC 2010 champion. 13 lucky guessers will be randomly selected to win official GO OC sponsored hardware, and on top of those prizes, there will also be one lucky draw per week between August 20th and September 24th awarding a different prize each week.

One of the highlights of my week has been showgirl and hostess selection for the Go OC global final. This extremely enjoyable task comes around twice a year as we prepare for Computex and Go OC – our two biggest events in Taiwan. You can see by my silly expression just how much I enjoying this part of my job (I had no idea I had such a broad smile at the time).
Showgirl selection involves interviewing each lady and observing a dance or spontaneous speech – as if she was at Go OC in front of a crowd. It is every bit as exciting as you would imagine it could be. Our decision is not yet final, so feel free to leave a comment suggesting who you think should get the contract.

Today we announced the exciting new Best 3D Overclocker Contest on hwbot using the new Unigine Heaven DX11 benchmark. The contest is split into 4 sections that all run throughout the months of September and October. They are: 1x GPU, 2x GPUs, 3x GPUs and 4x GPUs. Points for the highest scores will be awarded, and the overclocker with the most points wins.
